Do not Hate Correction

Pastor Willie Monnet, Sr
Do you hate correction? Well, at times most of us do hate correction in our lives at some point. It does not feel good to hear or nor to take it in. Nevertheless, from God’s point of view, correction is necessary to maintain a relationship with Him.
The first step of this process involves admitting and accepting correction. To accept correction is to admit that we need instructions first. According to Proverbs 12:1, “Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish”. So, when we do not love instructions and love new knowledge (correction), we become brutish. In other words, we turn out to be foolish.
Being foolish leads to becoming unwise and allowing serious changes occur in our lives. Changes such as seeking unwise advice or counsel from others, and various situations developing. Sadly, many of us do not realize that correction is the pathway to life.
This pathway propels us into experiencing true contentment as believers. Without it, we become fearful and worried about just living. True fulfillment comes when we accept instructions and corrections with an agreeable spirit. When we agree, even with God, we remain on the right path.
This path of instructions and correction originated when we were children. Our parents gave us instructions and corrected us out of love. Well, our heavenly Father, God is the same way. God wants us to understand that when we accept His instructions and corrections, even through authorities, we accept Him as God. Thus, we are saying to God that we love you. Therefore, out of love, we admit and accept correction and instructions to become more effective and productive Christians.
Finally, this launches us to a new level in our relationship with God and moves us to becoming more spiritually healthy. Therefore, here is to your health: stay fit and strong as a Christian by embracing correction and instructions.
